Nigel joined Penumbra in 1991 as a projects manager and then worked in a number of senior roles before becoming Chief Executive in 1999. As Chief Executive, Nigel is accountable to Penumbra’s Board and has delegated responsibility for all aspects of the organisation’s day to day work.
Nigel is a qualified mental health and general nurse and has worked in the NHS and other voluntary sector organisations.
He has been working in mental health for 30 years and has a wealth of experience in leading, managing, developing and innovating services.
Nigel is currently Convener of the Coalition of Care and Support Providers Scotland (CCPS), Vice Chair of the the Health and Social Care Alliance (Scotland), Trustee of the Albion Trust and Board member of both the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland and Mental Health Europe. He also contributed to starting and developing ‘see me’ and the Scottish Recovery Network (SRN) and continues as a member of the management groups of both initiatives.

As Director of Services and Development Graeme’s operational responsibilities include new business development and
overall management and development of services. He has particular expertise in the areas of quality improvement,
project management, strategic review and effective
change implementation.
Graeme joined Penumbra in 2008 and has worked in the NHS and Voluntary Sector for over 25 years. He is a qualified mental health nurse and completed a Masters Degree in Community Care at Glasgow University in 2002; carrying out research into the development of the new Mental Health Acts in Scotland and England and Wales. Graeme has a wealth of experience in creating, managing and developing services and has worked for several leading Scottish voluntary organisations managing services for people with mental health challenges as well as people with addictions, homelessness challenges, people with a learning disability and older people. Graeme is also a Member of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland.

Shona joined Penumbra in March 2008 as Director of Corporate Services, responsible for Finance, HR, Learning & Development, Fundraising and administration. Her main objective is to ensure that all parts of the organisation are fully supported in their needs by the Corporate Services team and that the training needs of all staff are fully addressed.
Shona qualified as a chartered accountant in 1999 with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Glasgow, before moving to London. Following work overseas as a volunteer, she returned to Edinburgh in 2003 and joined the voluntary sector shortly after.
She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, and the Scottish Charity Finance Directors Group.
