Penumbra supports adults and young people in Scotland to move towards mental wellbeing.

Our vision is of a society where people with mental health problems expect recovery and are accepted, supported and have the resources to fulfil their potential. We work to promote mental health and wellbeing for all, prevent mental ill health for people who are ‘at risk’ of developing mental health problems and to support people who experience mental health problems.

Penumbra’s Core Values

  • People can and do recover from mental ill health
  • People have equal human value regardless of their situation or ability and have the right to dignity, respect, privacy and choice.
  • People should be enabled to exercise control over their lives by means of real choice and participation.
  • Penumbra’s services should provide person centred support on an ordinary and inclusive basis wherever possible.

‘One of the most important things was that the staff were able to hold the hope for me when I was unable to hold it for myself’

(Trish, Service User, 2004)
