Accessing the service
Most people are referred to us by their social worker with the support of other members of the community mental health team as they are reliant on funding from social services. We do accept self-funding guests but would still require medical or social work confirmation that a stay is appropriate.
The first step is a phone call to one of our management team on 0131 313 5081. We only take guests whose needs we can adequately support, so we need to discuss the appropriateness of the referral as well as suitable dates.
If dates are agreed on the phone, this is seen as a firm booking. Referrers should then complete a booking form with the guest, and return it to us at least two weeks prior to the start of respite.
Referrers should ensure that the guest is informed of the dates for respite, the amount of the personal contribution required by the local authority, and is in possession of our information brochure for guests. A visit can be arranged prior to respite, following agreement of an appropriate referral.

Cancellation Policy
Where a booking is cancelled giving less than ten working days notice 100% cancellation fee will be charged, irrespective of reason, unless the place can be filled by any other source. This includes provisional telephone bookings where dates have been agreed.
Local Authorities and Penumbra Respite Care will make every effort to fill vacancies arising from cancellation.
Where it is agreed between the Local Authority and Penumbra Respite Care that a service user is unable to make appropriate use of the service and the user leaves before the end of their stay, Penumbra Respite Care will charge the agreed rate for the remaining time booked.
Where a service user leaves before the end of their stay at their own choice Penumbra Respite Care will charge the agreed rate for the remaining time booked.
