Supporting people in crisis through our #HoldTheHope appeal

Coronavirus has impacted on our ability to fundraise in all the usual ways, so Spotlight got the chance to chat to the delightful Penumbra Fundraising Manager, Sheena, about why our #HoldTheHope campaign and our exciting new text giving service. Here’s what Sheena had to say.

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and for many this has brought them to a place of crisis. Penumbra’s staff are cheerleaders for those who are in the darkest of places, unable to recognise their own worth and achievements, often feeling they have nowhere else to turn.

This winter, please help Penumbra Hold the Hope for those in crisis.

The support Penumbra provides is greatly enriched by the work of our peer workers all of whom have their own lived experience of mental ill health. We promote an approach that looks to a person’s whole life and social environment.

“We can’t always do this journey alone and sometimes we just need someone to be there alongside us. I know that I do not have any answers, but I know how to walk alongside people whilst they find their own answers.” Marie, peer worker.

The COVID 19 pandemic has meant that we have had to develop new ways of working but it has never stopped us providing support. As we look towards the future we are faced with the concerning prospects of localised lockdowns, recession and unemployment. This is daunting for us all but for those who already struggle with anxiety, feeling isolated or living with the legacy of trauma it may easily lead to crisis.

Now more than ever Penumbra is committed to providing the support required to move forward and, most importantly, not to give up hope.

Every penny really does count. Please help us to continue to Hold the Hope for people by contributing to our appeal.

  • £10 pays for a wellbeing box to sustain essential selfcare
  • £40 provides 3 sessions of support for someone in crisis
  • £100 pays for a Peer Worker for a day

By donating to the Holding the Hope appeal you will support us to:

  • Provide pre-emptive support to stop people reaching a point of crisis
  • Promote our services, ensuring those who need our services can access them
  • Be agile, providing crisis support for those that need it, when they need it

To make a donation please text PENUMBRA followed by the amount you want to give to 70085.
