Our supported living service
is for people with mental health problems, who stay
in their own homes.
90% of people with mental health problems live in the
community, often without much professional help. Penumbra
offers a support service to people whether they live
alone, with family or carers.
Penumbra support workers provide both practical and
emotional support in a service which is tailored to
meet the needs of the individual and designed to enable
people to lead an ordinary life. The times, length,
and content of each visit is agreed according to peoples
individual requirements.
Support can be provided in a
variety of areas including:-
Daily
living skills - for example, assistance in budgeting,
shopping, cooking, other domestic
activities and personal hygiene
Daytime
activities and community involvement - assisting people
in identifying and exploring
their options and helping them to participate in occupational
and leisure activities
Relationships
- helping people to establish and maintain personal
relationships and assisting
them in making contact with external agencies
Health
issues - providing emotional support to help people
with their specific mental health
problems and assisting them during anxious or stressful
times.

Penumbra has developed tenancy
support in a number of locations throughout Scotland.
The focus of the service is
to:
Assist individuals who may be experiencing difficulties
in sustaining their tenancy as a result of general social
or mental health difficulties.
The aim of the service is:
To support tenants, or potential tenants, within their
own homes, where at least one member of the family has
a social or behavioural difficulty or is displaying
special needs.
The objectives are:
To
offer flexible and responsive support where a tenant
may require it for a transitional period
To
prevent any unnecessary re-admissions to hospital as
a result of temporary mental health difficulties
To
prevent any unnecessary evictions or rent arrears accruing
as a result of mental health difficulties
To
assist in crisis intervention where an independent organisation
is deemed to be more appropriate.
