Self-Harm Training Since 1994, Penumbra has pioneered a community based mental health project for 16-21 year olds which has demonstrated positive outcomes with young people who have a range of difficulties related to their mental health. For some time now, Penumbra has been one of main organisations in Scotland working in the field of self-harm, particularly in the 16-25 year old age-group. Between 30-50% of young people we work with have experienced, or are experiencing, self-harm to some degree. We have organised several conferences on the subject and in January 1991 published a report on a piece of research we did in Edinburgh with young people who self-harm called “No Harm in Listening”.
