The 1st Response Service provides a first response and information service for people in Aberdeen aged 16 years and above with mental health problems. The service is for people who require immediate, short term support and those who may be in distress or in crisis.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, we can provide support tailored to your individual needs when you feel you need it most. You will receive sensitive and nonjudgmental support, information and signposting.
Aberdeen 1st Response will support you to find ways to successfully resolve the crisis situation and to plan for your own future.
How we can help you
Your Recovery Practitioner will ensure you feel listened to and will work with you to help you feel supported in your current circumstances. Using specialist planning tools, you will be supported to plan and manage your next steps. We can also provide you with information and signposting to other organisations, such as the NHS, Aberdeen Council’s Social Work Department, Benefits Advice and other third sector providers.
Who can use the service?
1st Response is open to anyone aged over 16 years who lives in Aberdeen, and is experiencing distress and reduced mental wellbeing.
Where is the service based?
The service is based and delivered in Aberdeen City Centre giving convenient and easy accessibility. The service has an office base with a dedicated free phone line and a 1:1 Support Room.
#MENtionIt
#MENtionIt is a new campaign to encourage men who are experiencing a crisis to contact Penumbra’s 1st Response service. Although anyone can contact 1st Response for support, analysis of service data has found that men experiencing difficulties are much less likely to contact the service than women.
#MENtionIt has been launched to raise awareness of 1st Response amongst men, and to encourage men feeling frustrated, depressed or distressed to contact the service and… #MENtionIt.
How do I access 1st Response?
Support is provided by telephone, email, text or through face to face appointments.
There is NO application form and NO waiting list. You can contact 1st Response Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
