Heather's story

I began my Penumbra journey five years ago as a HR Assistant, it is the best place I have ever worked, and it has flew by. In this time, I have gained more experience than I could’ve ever imagined and I’m lucky to have such a supportive team around me who take the time to invest in you and nurture your skills.

I’m proud to say I have recently completed my Level 5 CIPD People Management course, which is a degree-equivalent, and have utilised this newfound qualification in my promotion as a Senior HR Assistant. Whilst working full-time and doing a degree was difficult, the support and guidance I received from Penumbra was exceptional and I’m eternally grateful.

In this new role, I provide support and guidance to all Penumbra staff – whether it be absences, health related issues, grievance/disciplinary issues, general support or guidance. I strive to ensure that all staff have a confidential space to voice their concerns, have a blether and just feel cared for and valued.

I feel privileged everyday coming to work and I want to continue growing with Penumbra 

Penumbra are a pioneering, values-based mental health charity, doing exceptional work in the mental ill-health field. I, myself have suffered in the past and working here has proven that people do recover and can excel at life – I put myself in that category. I am proud of the achievements I have made over the past few years and feel happier than ever. Speaking daily to different staff members from different backgrounds gives me a feeling of pride to contribute to such an inclusive organisation. I am inspired by the work everyone does and I make it my daily mission to ensure they all know how amazing they are and how much they are appreciated by Penumbra.

I feel privileged everyday coming to work and I want to continue growing with Penumbra, taking on any highs and lows that come with that. It is a place close to my heart and I know bigger and better things are on the horizon for me, for us and those we support.
